Portugal – Beira
Winemaking in the Beiras region reaches far back to Roman times. Greatly influenced by some of the highest and most impressive mountains; Estrela, Marofa and Malcata, the variances in vineyard altitude here are between 400 to 700 meters and are some of the oldest vineyards in Portugal. This special combination makes for quality wines that contain complexity, balanced acidity, big fruit and solid tannins. In the last few years this region has seen a jump in producers and quality in the wine, with the goal of aligning themselves back in with the top wine producing regions.
